DESCRIPTION
The U TC UT232E has t wo drivers an d t wo receivers with dua l
charge-pump circuit. It meets RS- 232D an d V.28 spec ifications. Its
high p erformance incl udes i ncreased driv e current for long er an d
more fle xible cable c onfigurations and 10V/µs sle w rat e, 120k bps
guaranteed tra nsmission rate . F or easier use, enh ancements inclu de
better ESD protection for RS-232 I/O pins, low power dissipation and
four external small 0.1µF charge pump capacitors.
FEATURES
* Single power supply: 3.3V~5.5V
* Low power supply current: 3.0mA
* Multiple drivers and receivers
* Receiver input levels: ±25V
* 3-State outputs of TTL/CMOS receiver
* High output slew rate: 10V/µs under load
* High data rate: 120kbps under load
* Four external small charge pump capacitors: 0.1µF
* Exceeds ±8KV HBM ESD protection for RS-232 I/O pins

APPLICATION INFORMATION
To operate from a single + 5.0V suppl y, the U TC UT232A include charg e pump volta ge converters which ca n
allow it. To generate the RS-232 output levels these converters convert the +5.0V input power to the ±6.0V needed.
The current drain d ue to cha rge pum p oper ation is co nsiderably re duced with this power supp lied e xternally. T he
UTC UT232A can operate over the commercial, industrial and military temperature ranges.
